For the last couple of years, I've had a sort of running theory that I enjoy testing out every now and then.
It's about personality and ice cream. I noticed one day, after going to one of the most amazing ice cream places (www.bethmaries.com) with a few acquaintances, that one proclaimed their favorite ice cream to be vanilla. And the other - a sundae. Now, I have no hard feelings against vanilla nor sundaes. But it seems to me that in a shop filled with 60 amazing homemade flavors such as campfire marshmallow, pumpkin, birthday cake, cinnamon...and that halloween one with candy corn and all sorts of halloweeny treats that I almost lost to the sidewalk that time...their declarations of loyalty struck me as odd. And yet some reason, it all made sense. I was sitting with a vanilla. And a vanilla with some toppings. Safe, plain, and old fashioned. Sure it's good - I mean, you can't really go wrong with vanilla. But then you can't go right with so many other options. It's an opportunity cost!
Thus began my theory. I don't claim it to be spot on, but I feel it hasn't let me down. The boy's favorite is peppermint, sometimes cinnamon. Figures. He's laid back, calm, and relaxing. But occasionally he can get feisty, and have a little kick to him. Which is why I love him - those moments of delightful surprise, like finding the chunk of peppermint buried in the creamy goodness of the sweet treat.
My point might be moot here, but I met a friend for gelato the other day, who (I never realized) doesn't really care for ice cream. Her strategy? Ask the scooper for recommendations. And oddly enough, that's her. Willing to hear someone else's opinion, and thoughtfully considering that opinion to be valid. Even if that person is a stranger. Or a scooper. She's accepting and kind, always ready to learn.
If I ask you what your favorite flavor is, know that I'm assessing your personality. And yes, you probably should be worried. As for me, I'm a violet, but I'll let you decide your own conclusion.

#2 griled pork tenderloin with mushrooms, green beans, wild rice
this is a grilled pork tenderloin marinated in black pepper, minced garlic, salt, herbs de provence(found @ world market), and vegetable. oil. Avery grilled it and then put it in the oven on low for over an hour, allowing the liquid in bottom of the pan to keep it moist. We also had a side of mushrooms cooked with butter and onions and she added red pepper and dijon mustard. and for our vegetable we had fresh green beans and our carb. we had wild rice seasoned simply with salt and pepper.

#1 yogurt curry chicken satay
this is our first blog entree...it's grilled yogurt curry chicken satay with a side of edamame and grilled vegetables. we were inspired by a local restaurant called Bengal Coast (http://www.bengalcoast.com/) they have infused several different asian cultures to create amazing flavors on one plate. Curry and other similar spices seem to have a very potent taste and smell which could turn some people away but when used lightly and reasonably it is very appetizing and delicious.

so this is how it begins, boy meets girl and it's apparent we both love food and how much joy it brings...we would both make terrific meals and desserts and we thoroughly enjoyed them all. It's definitely what has inspired us to start this blog, not because we know it all but maybe our inspiration for food would inspire you to try new things, there's a lot we are thankful for.
